ANNILE  by 𝗘𝗱𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗮, Il Maestrale, 2025

Annìle’s diary, found among the peaks of Montiferru, is attributed to an enigmatic figure – perhaps a person, a fox, or an idea – that embodies the mountain itself. In a tale marked by the seasons, little Maddalena teaches the mountain the power of words. A modern fable about the fragile bond between man and nature, between poetry and survival.

THE AUTHOR
Edoardo Mantiga (Cagliari 1995), a graduate in modern literature and multimedia production, lives and works in Cagliari as a teacher of Italian and history in secondary schools. He won the Salvatore Mannuzzu Prize (Città di Sassari Literary Prize) with the long story The promise to be there. Annìle, with which he won the eighteenth edition of the Gramsci Prize, is his first novel.
