We were many.
Listening to the words of the mayor of Ittiri, of Don Filippo Dore – who spent most of his life in Palestine and feels Christian, Catholic, Palestinian, brother to all.
We also listened to Father Stefano Gennari, who strongly recalled the greatness of Francis of Assisi, the last among the last, bearer of peace and mediation. Just like the Carta di S’Aspru, strongly desired by the associations Intrecci Culturali, Fermiamo la Guerra, Laudato Sì and Mondo X Sardegna.

Father Salvatore Morittu stressed the importance of this land as a meeting place and expressed the hope that that charter could reach as far as Assisi and, perhaps, also arrive in Jerusalem, today a battered city.

For the first time, what struck us was the unity of a city council, united in condemning the Israeli act against Gaza.
And even from a small town, as the mayor Antonio Sau reminded us, those voices, that need to say “Stop it!”, must be able to shout before the whole world.

Small but meaningful stories emerged, told precisely by Lavinia Rosa, of the association Ponti non muri, who reported – with disarming coolness – the real numbers of what everyone has called a genocide: thousands dead, including very many women and children.
A modern massacre. A holocaust that no one seems willing to see nor weigh for what it truly is.

We also listened to the appeal of Natalì, a young Palestinian now in Italy, who wanted to reaffirm the absence of dreams among the young people of a devastated land.
"Children who only wanted to play football," she said. But they can’t do it anymore, not only because the playing fields no longer exist, but because many of those children no longer have legs.
And all this happens in the absolute indifference of too many.

We listened again to the voices of those who, in that war, try to stitch the wounds back together – but do not always manage to heal souls: the great readiness and sacrifice of the women and men of Emergency, true champions, small silent heroes in a wrong war, like all wars.

Finally, in the voice of Paolo Bellotti, president of Intrecci Culturali, we heard the eight points of the Carta di S’Aspru, signed in the past by various national and regional political figures, and relaunched today in a packed theatre in Ittiri, where the expanded city council showed a simple, great truth:

everyone condemns Israel’s disproportionate, painful, pointless, hate-bringing aggression, just as they condemn Hamas’s terrible violence.

From that stage, from the audience, a single voice rose:
Stop.
Stop and take a break.
Look each other in the eyes and try to say: we are brothers and sisters.

That is the meaning of the evening, which should now lead to building many more, in many other towns.
We are here. And we are against all this.
Take it into account.

Here are some images from the evening held yesterday, 30 June 2025, at the municipal theatre of Ittiri. At the open city council, all councillors and the executive were present and they approved, unanimously, the agenda proposed by Mayor Antonio Sau and delegated him to sign the Carta di S'Aspru. After the municipality of Siligo, the municipality of Ittiri is also among the signatories of the charter.
