An opportunity for reflection, discussion and discovery. On Tuesday 24 September, in Alghero, the new book by Beppe Giunti, The Upside-Down World of Jesus, will be presented. A title that in itself intrigues and invites questions: does the Gospel really offer a different – even “upside-down” – way of looking at life?

The book grows out of the experience of the Saturdays of Silence, monthly Franciscan rites that for years have taken place in Susa (Turin). Moments of recollection and listening that have brought out a truth as simple as it is radical: Jesus’ vision does not match that of today’s world. In fact, it openly challenges it.

While society celebrates power, money and personal success, the Gospel overturns common values and speaks of freely given love, welcome, service. Not an abstract ethic, but a concrete proposal for life: opening your table to those who can never repay, choosing encounter over self-interest, solidarity instead of competition.

“The time of automatic belonging to the Church is over,” Giunti stresses. “Today being Christian means a conscious, creative, alternative choice, able to give meaning to life and to restore hope for the future.”

The Alghero event will not be only a book presentation, but a real moment of open dialogue. Alongside the author, speakers will include Paolo Bellotti, president of Intrecci Culturali, and Tonino Baldino, from the Toniolo Study Center. It will be a chance to reflect together on how Gospel values can still speak to the human heart and to the challenges of our time.

The meeting promises to be interesting not only for those who live the dimension of faith, but also for those seeking new ways to read contemporary society. Because, as the title reminds us, looking at the world “in Jesus’ way” means learning to flip perspectives, to take nothing for granted, and to discover that precisely in the unexpected the path toward a more just and supportive humanity may be hidden.
