After the summer success of the Ammajare Festival, held in Siligo in August, the month of November marks the natural continuation of that journey with the Ammajare OFF Festival: a series of meetings designed to carry forward reflection on highly topical issues, in Sardinia and beyond. An opportunity to keep understanding the world around us and, at the same time, to rediscover our deepest roots.

Four events at the Municipal Library of Sassari – Palazzo d’Usini, weaving together literature, memory, identity and research.

It begins on Tuesday 11 November with Franciscu Sedda – full professor at the University of Cagliari, lecturer in Semiotics of contemporary communication and Cultural Semiotics – who, with The Unpredictable Happens (Bompiani), will offer a clear-eyed and passionate reflection on our present, between crisis and change, to understand how to face the unexpected that marks our time.

On Thursday 13 November Gianluca Medas – journalist and multifaceted artist – will present a reading from his Emilio Lussu. The Indomitable Knight (Edizioni Abba), bringing back the civic and moral strength of a figure who symbolizes freedom and democracy.

On Tuesday 18 November, Giampaolo Cassitta – journalist and prolific writer – with The Law of Donna Matilde (Arkadia Editore), will bring to life Italy’s economic-boom years, with irony, music and sweetness, in a story that speaks of hope and rebirth.

Closing the Off section of Ammajare, on Thursday 20 November, is Rita Nappi, with Sardinian Healers between Medicine, Magic and the Inquisition: a work that weaves together tradition, witchcraft and folk medicine, with women as the protagonists of a path that unites mystery, legend and historical memory. A valuable contribution to understanding the depth of Sardinian cultural roots and their link to the present.

The Ammajare OFF Festival is promoted by the Intrecci Culturali association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Sassari, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, and the Municipal Library System, and is made possible thanks to the valued collaboration of the Fondazione di Sardegna, the Chamber of Commerce of Sassari, the Witches Network – City of Siligo, and the Libreria Internazionale Koinè.
