There are concerts that walk along the staff of memories and bring us back into a cocoon of calm. Christmas concerts have this quiet, deep power: they are a massage for disenchanted, tired souls, a kind of homeopathic medicine that lets us get through a few hours with closed eyes and a warm heart. If a story of women and children, of strength and resilience, is woven into that music, then the concert stops being just listening and becomes a necessary passage to build something small and, at the same time, terribly great.

On December 18, at 8:00 p.m., in Sassari, at the Luigi Canepa Conservatory, the “Concerto pe’ Natale” is scheduled, and it will be an event unlike many others. Under the artistic direction of Irene Dore, internationally renowned artists will take the stage: tenor Matteo Desole, soprano Ilina Mitrevska, pianist Kseniia Nikitina, together with the children’s choir Lolek Vocal Ensemble conducted by Barbara Agnello.

The concert, organized by the Rotary Club of Sassari Nord, District 2080, and by the associations ARS Aurelia and Intrecci Culturali, also has a concrete aim: a fundraiser to be donated to charity. The idea is to try to give a smile, even a small one, to those who walk in the desert of wars scattered across the world, to those who don’t have a ball to play with, a sandwich to bite into, teeth to smile.

On stage there will also be the students from the San Donato middle schools, who have written letters for the children of Gaza. During the concert a reading is planned, performed by Marta Pedoni and Giampaolo Cassitta, who edited the texts. A weave of music and words, of grown voices and young voices, to remind us that beauty, when it meets responsibility, can still become a gesture.
